Honnammana kere

Honnamma Lake is an ancient and holy lake in Doddamale, 8 km from Somwarpet in Kodagu district. Honnamma lake is the largest lake in Kodagu and every year on Gauri festival special worship of the village deity Honnamma takes place. Honnamma lake is surrounded by two hills Gavibetta and Mari Betta mountains with waterfalls and coffee plantations. There is a man-made cave here, which is said to have been built by the Pandavas. This lake is named Honnamma lake because of the sacrifice of a woman named Honnamma. It is a religious place and on Gauri festival a special pooja is performed and a bow containing the objects of Honnamma Devi is offered to this lake.
