Thalakaveri

Talakaveri flows from the foothills of Brahrigiri hill. Kaveri is a very sacred river in the south. Talakaveri is the source of Kaveri in Karnataka, 46 km from Madikeri. Talakaveri is the only great river in South India and Kodagu Kaveri is worshiped as Kuladevata. Kaveri is located in Kodagu Jalle Sub-division. Flows from an altitude of about 5,000 feet above sea level. She appears 3 times in the month of October every year on Tula Sankram in the 22 long by 22 wide square hill pond. It is also known as Tirthodbhava. Kaveri river was held by Agastya Khushi in his kamandal, Ganesha in the form of a crow is believed to have dropped the kamandal on the hill. Agasteshwar Ganapati Temple is located at the foot of Kaveri, which is known as the Ganges of the South, and there is a square pond where Kaveri originates at the bottom of the temple. Tourists and devotees from outside the state come to have a glimpse of Kaveri.
